Are you overweight and can't decide which is the right procedure for you? Abdominoplasty or liposuction? What's the difference between them? Who are the procedures suitable for? Do they have the same effect? Read about it on our blog!
Which procedure is the right one for me?
Liposuction is intended primarily for those clients who have managed to shift their excess weight. It is an elegant, rapid way to lose weight and shape those areas that you can't shift in the gym.
Abdominoplasty, on the other hand, requires a greater intervention. Most often it is used not only for overweight patients but also clients who have given birth and whose stomach has shrunk back, but where there remains loose skin which does not adhere back to the stomach (mini-abdominoplasty).
How are the procedures performed?
Liposuction is generally performed under local anaesthesia, and we perform it using a BodyJet device. Tumescent liposuction consists of inserting a cannula under the skin and injecting a tumescent solution, where it is allowed to act, and then it is sucked out of the body along with the fat.
As abdominoplasty is a more extensive procedure, it is performed under general anaesthetic, where the client sleeps for the entire operation. We make an incision in the abdomen (bikini area), remove the fat, excise the excess skin, tighten up and stitch the stomach and create a new navel because the original one would be too low. If needs be we also tighten up the muscles that have pulled apart, which clients following childbirth most often have, and if necessary at the same time as the abdominoplasty we also perform liposuction on the hips.
How much will I lose?
Liposuction can slim you down by up to one full dress size. By removing the overhang on the stomach you will often lose up to several kilograms.
Are the procedures painful?
Liposuction is virtually painless during the operation and after it. The operation is performed under local anaesthetic, you are conscious for the entire time. Should there be any indication of discomfort, we increase the dose of anaesthetic, and the pain stops immediately. After the operation clients often feel strained, as if they had been working out at the gym.
Abdominoplasty is performed under general anaesthesia, which means that there is no pain during the procedure. After the operation there is pain, and so we administer painkillers and antibiotics to speed healing. The body has undergone a major operation, and so for several weeks you cannot lift anything heavy and you must avoid all physical exertion.
Is there any risk to me?
These days liposuction comes in the category of very common plastic surgery. The operation is virtually risk free, and these days it is possible to carry it out on several areas at the same time. It is even possible to add the sucked-out fat to those areas where the client would welcome some more (such as breasts or bottom).
How long does the healing process take?
Healing is always individual. The first phase of healing lasts approximately 3 months, when the swelling and bruising disappears. For the first month, the client must wear compression underwear.
The swellings and bruises disappear gradually after an abdominoplasty, and every day improvements can be seen. The client must rest for the first two weeks, and may return to sport after 6 weeks. The final effect is visible after six months to one year.
Will I have scars after the procedure?
In the case of liposuction the scars are virtually imperceptible.
After an abdominoplasty the scars remain hidden under the underwear and over time fade.
Do the prices of the procedures differ?
Liposuction on three areas will cost you about EUR 1850 at us. Abdominoplasty for EUR 2400, mini-abdominoplasty for EUR 1950. The prices always vary depending on the difficulty of the procedure. The price is final and all inclusive. In addition to the actual procedure, it includes the anaesthesia, package of medicines and compression underwear which have to be paid for separately at other clinics, and also meals (we draw up a menu individually according to the client's wishes - all our food is organic) and taxi in Prague.
For us the client always comes first, we put our heart and soul into our work, and we make sure that not only the client, but also our staff feel good here. Clients very often come back to our clinic to "their" doctor, and they happily recommend his services to others. The service that we provide is all important for us, and people often compare us to a hotel :) If you have a question about liposuction, abdominoplasty or the other services we provide, don't hesitate to contact us.
If clients are very obese, we recommend that they lose weight first because during the operation they can lose more blood and healing tends to be more complicated. Neither is the operation suitable for clients suffering from a serious illness or breastfeeding women. But if the client is healthy and sticks to the doctor's instructions, the procedure is problem free.
