Abdominoplasty is the most effective way of removing excess fat and skin in the abdominal region. A “sagging” tummy can be a problem that does not go away even with regular exercise and a change of diet.
The surgery is suitable for:
Anyone troubled by loose skin due to significant weight loss or a weakened abdominal wall, and for women after childbirth.
When to undergo surgery:
No sooner than one year after childbirth.
What to expect:
Your waist and tummy will change. They will be flatter, firmer and with less excess skin and fat.
How is the surgery performed:
The surgery can be performed in two different ways. Either as a complete abdominoplasty or a partial – i.e. mini-abdominoplasty.
A complete abdominoplasty takes about two to three hours and is performed under general anaesthesia. That is why a thorough pre-surgical internal examination is required. The surgical incision is made right above the pubic line between the hip bones. Therefore the scar is not visible, as is fully covered by your underwear.
Aside from the removal of excess skin, the surgery also includes shaping of the navel and reinforcement of the abdominal wall. This is carried out by suturing separated abdominal muscles and reducing the fat layer beneath the skin. In case, the surgeon determinates extended sutura diastasis, it will be charged extra fee 550 €. The surgery is often combined with liposuction of the upper abdomen and hips.
Length of hospitalisation:
Usually 2 nights. However, it is necessary to avoid any physical activities and rest for another 12 to 16 days at home. Sports and other physical activities should be avoided for 6 weeks.
What to expect after surgery:
The first re-dressing takes place one week after surgery, and further re-dressing is then scheduled with your doctor. You may also feel slight tension around the scar in the first weeks, but this will soon disappear.
